Episode 9 – The Episode That Went A-Rye

Today, we explore a less popular beer variety: the Rye.

Sampling Aquanaut Brewing’s Maiden Voyage Rye IPA and Miskatonic’s Catchpenny Session Rye, we hope you enjoy our exploration of these special brews.

Episode 8 – Carving Up Some Pumpkin Ales

Welcome to a special Halloween episode from the Baba and Ganoush Beer Tasting Podcast. We venture out of the Chicago area to sample a pair of pumpkin ales: Schlafly’s Pumpkin Ale and Steven’s Point Brewery’s Pumpkin Ale.

We’d love your comments and questions. Please leave a review on iTunes or send us an email at babaandganoush@gmail.com.

Episode 7 – Octoberfest Power Hour

Willkommen! It’s beer season and we have a very special episode featuring 4 (!) Chicago-area Octoberfest beers. Grab your stein and settle in because we’ve got a lot to cover.

Beers sampled in this episode:

Revolution Brewing Oktoberfest

Baderbrau Oktoberfest

Goose Island Oktoberfest

Two Brothers Atom Smasher

Episode 6 – The Season for Saison

We hope you enjoyed your summer vacation! We’re back to discuss a lesser known beer variety: the Saison.

We’ve got two Chicago-area samples of this summer-time beer for your listening pleasure. The first is Apex Predator courtesy of Off Color Brewing. The second is Alice’s Honey Saison from Arcade Brewery.

And don’t forget to visit our Facebook page or leave a review on iTunes with more ideas for future episodes! Or send us an email at babaandganoush@gmail.com.

Episode 5 – Live at Baderbräu

Today, we venture into our first on location recording session at the Baderbräu grand opening. We try a total of five beers the brewery had on tap, discuss the next generation’s failure to understand cornhole, and fail to remember the actual names of the beers we taste. Good times all around!
Beers Sampled:

  • VelociRadler “The Beer-Mamosa” – A mild, light, and very effervescent beer mixed with Kumquat juice.
  • South Side Pride – a Helles lager.
  • Lawnmower Lager – Our apologies to Baderbräu for calling this one an ale at one point. It is most definitely a lager and an excellent one to boot.
  • Chicago Pilsner – Still fantastic. Go back and listen to Episode 2 for our first thoughts on this excellent Pils.
  • High Noon Hef – a German-style hefeweizen.

Some pictures from the brewery.

Episode 4 – The Illustrious Acronym

In this episode, we sample IPAs from one Chicago brewery and one Chicago transplant: Revolution Brewing’s Anti-Hero IPA and Lagunitas Brewing’s Lagunitas IPA.

Below the Lagunitas IPA is on the left and the Anti-Hero is on the right. They’re both very similar in color and clarity. However, even after several minutes, the Anti-Hero still retains a bit more head than the Lagunitas IPA.

Baba thinks the Anti-Hero general dude looks like Captain Obvious from the Hotels.com commercials.

Ganoush’s mushroom coasters are also present for your enjoyment.

Episode 3 – The Rabbit and the Golden Path

In this episode, we sample two golden ales from Chicago-area breweries: 5 Rabbit from 5 Rabbit Cerveceria and Two Brothers Prairie Path.

Below we have the 5 Rabbit on the left and the Two Brothers on the right. Two Brothers can be seen here to be clearer than the 5 Rabbit. However, the 5 Rabbit (despite Matt’s inability to pour correctly) has a much more significant head.

Note below the mini-mason jar glass mentioned in this episode along with one of the delicious home-made soft pretzels we had on hand for tasting.

Episode 2 – The Pony vs. The Phoenix

In this episode, we contrast two Chicago-area Pilsners: Baderbräu Chicago Pilsner and Half Acre Pony Pilsner.

Below is the Half Ace Pony on the left and the Baderbräu on the right. Notice the difference in color, clarity, and head (we should’ve been faster with the photo as there was a lot more head on the Pony).
